John Brooking

John trained at Wimbledon School of Art, working throughout the UK as a set and costume designer for the Byre Theatre St. Andrews, Solent People’s Theatre and the Inner City Theatre Company. For three years he was Head of Design at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

John has a wide range of theatre successes to his name, including his nine years at Alton Towers as show designer, creating parades, magic shows and ice shows, including Peter Rabbit on Ice.

Other productions include the Stafford Festival Shakespeare Open Air Theatre versions of Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet, as well as Celtic Heartbeat, A Slice of Saturday Night, a Neil Simon Trilogy for Cunard and five cycles of the Lichfield Mysteries.

John a has a wide portfolio of productions to his credit, the most recent being for the Lichfield Garrick Studio where he has designed Ladies’ Day, The Entertainer, The Blue Room, Haunting Julia and Educating Rita. Haunting Julia subsequently transferred to the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith and embarked on a national tour. John designed costumes and sets for the acclaimed productions of A Christmas Carol and Alice in Wonderland at the Lichfield Garrick, and is proud to be designing the forthcoming production of Snow White and the Magic Mirror.

John manages a thriving studio in Staffordshire, working with a wide range of makers and specialists offering a professional service in providing props and costumes for the theatre industry to a number of venues and clients throughout the UK.
